The Stories Live On - A Métis Learning Journey (Workshop 5 of 6)
The Spirit Returns — 1932–1980
Saturday, November 14, 2026 | 3:00–5:00 PM
Otipemisiwak Métis Government Calgary Satellite Office
Suite 214, 1530 27 Avenue NE, Calgary, AB
The Métis story did not disappear despite generations of hardship.
Presented in partnership by the Calgary Elbow Métis District, Calgary Nose Hill Métis District, and the University of Calgary Werklund School of Education.
Drawing on Sherry Farrell Racette’s The Métis: A Visual History, this workshop explores a period of renewed Métis political organization, advocacy, community building, and cultural resurgence.
We will look at how Métis people continued to maintain their identity and connections while organizing for recognition, rights, and a stronger future for generations to come.
The stories survived. The spirit returned.
Made Possible Through the Indigenous Reconciliation Fund - Catholic Diocese of Calgary
This workshop is offered free of charge thanks to the generous support of the Indigenous Reconciliation Fund (IRF). This funding helps us create opportunities for Métis citizens to reconnect with our history, culture, land-based knowledge, stories, and traditions, while ensuring these teachings continue to be shared with future generations.
We are grateful to the Indigenous Reconciliation Fund for supporting this important work of cultural reconnection, learning, and community.
