The Calgary Elbow Métis District in Alberta is a vibrant hub celebrating the rich culture and history of the Métis people in Canada. The District hosts community events, cultural festivals, and gatherings that showcase Métis arts, music, and storytelling.

Efforts towards reconciliation and revitalization of Métis identity are underway, including providing educational resources and support for Métis families. The District also advocates for the visibility and rights of Métis people in the region.

Otipemisiwak is a Plains Cree word for the Métis, meaning "the people who own themselves. The Otipemisiwak Métis Government of the Métis Nation within Alberta held a landmark election that marked a significant step in Indigenous self-governance. This election, which took place in 2023, aimed to establish a more representative and accountable leadership structure for the Métis community in Alberta.

Key aspects of the election included:
