👥 Capacity: Maximum 10 participants
Join us for a hands-on, two-day Capote Making Workshop, where participants will learn to create their own traditional Métis capote in a supportive, community-centered space.
The capote is more than just a garment—it is a deeply meaningful cultural item for Métis people across the Homeland. Traditionally made from wool blankets, capotes were worn by our ancestors for warmth, durability, and identity on the land. Each capote carries story, skill, and connection—reflecting both practicality and pride in Métis craftsmanship.
During this workshop, participants will:
- Learn the history and cultural significance of the capote
- Be guided step-by-step through the process of creating their own garment
- Work with provided materials and tools
- Share in a circle of learning, conversation, and connection
No prior sewing experience is required—just a willingness to learn and be part of the process.
✨ What’s included:
All supplies and materials needed to complete your capote are provided as part of the registration fee.
✨ Why join:
This workshop is not just about making something—it’s about reconnecting with Métis traditions, building skills, and spending time together in a good way.
Registration is limited to 10 participants to ensure a meaningful and hands-on experience for everyone.
